The Greyhounds took the field Thursday night for a Blue/White scrimmage in front of the home fans.
The JV and varsity took turns running their offenses and covering on defense on the first day that contact is allowed.
The past two years North Surry held a midnight practice to celebrate the start of hitting, but chose a more fan-friendly time this season.
The white team nearly scored in the first 15-minute, completing a pass to the 1-foot line on fourth-and-goal.
A long pass down the right sideline allowed the blue team to get into white territory in the second period, and eventually the blue team would punch it in at the goal line.
White tied the game after a couple of good runs by the tailback and a 15-yard penalty for a horse-collar tackle. A TD run made it 6-6 in the third period.
All-conference back Dakota Goss broke loose for a long run and later scored from five yards out just a few minutes after White’s TD to make it 12-6.
White again found good running lanes and moved it down to score in the fourth period.
White nearly took the lead, but a pass on 3rd-and-goal was intercepted at the goal line.
Blue then completed a long bomb down the right sideline, that with a broken tackle turned into a one-play scoring drive.
That gave Blue an 18-12 lead as the varsity players went back on the field for a fifth 15-minute period.
Final results were not available at press time.
