Winston-Salem police reported finding the body of a Mount Airy man late Tuesday morning, although few details were available.

According to a statement released by the police, the body of Devin Ryan Moncus, 30, of 1240 Newsome Street, Mount Airy, was discovered by police who were out working on an unrelated case.

The body was discovered in the 600 block of Peters Creek Parkway. A detective, who the release did not name, was searching for another person who had been missing since June 9 when he “noticed a foul odor” and “recognized the odor to be that of decomposition.”

After a brief search, he discovered the body down a steep embankment that was covered in heavy vegetation. The report said the body was not visible from the road.

The police said no foul play is suspected at this time, though the investigation continues. The department also said that the case is not related to the initial missing person case, in which Larry Brian Haynes, of Winston-Salem, was reported missing shortly after he left Forsyth Medical Center on June 9.

No additional details were immediately available.
