Whittney (Gwyn) and Matthew Harris marry

Whittney McCall Gwyn, of Pilot Mountain, and Matthew Scott Harris, of Pilot Mountain, were married at 4 p.m. on April 5, 2014, at the William Alfred Moore House in Mount Airy. The Rev. Darrell Tate officiated.

The bride’s parents are Brian and Pam Gwyn of Pilot Mountain. Her grandparents are Rex and Leah Davis of Pilot Mountain, and the late Ray Gwyn and Jenny Gwyn of Mount Airy.

She graduated from East Surry High School in 2006 and from North Carolina State University in 2010 with a bachelor’s in political science and American history. She is employed at Surry County Department of Social Services.

The groom’s parents are Sid and Dawn Harris, of Carolina Beach. His grandparents are Alice Harris, of Lexington, and the late Maureen Parks, and the late Franklin Harris Sr.

He graduated from North Surry High School in 2002 and from North Carolina State University in 2007 with a degree in agricultural business. He is employed at the Mount Airy Meat Center.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, Brian Gwyn.

The bride wore an ivory, strapless, drop waist gown with a sweetheart neckline and a pleated chiffon bodice and a cascading chiffon ruffle skirt and chapel train with white buttons adorning the back of the gown.

A birdcage veil accented with lace applique from the bride’s mother’s wedding gown.

The flowers for both the bride and the bridesmaids were hand-tied bouquets of white, blush and lavender roses accented with white anemones, pastel mums, and greenery. The bouquet also was adorned with heirloom broaches from the bride’s mother, grandmothers and late great-grandmothers.

The matron of honor was Lindsay Leah Arnder of Tacoma, Washington, the sister of the bride.

The maid of honor was Barbara Doran East of Raleigh, childhood friend of the bride.

The bridesmaids were Alicia Tolbert Spurlin of Mount Airy, a friend of the bride; Lindsey Stephens Brim, of Ararat, Virginia, a friend of the bride; Laura Irene Spurlin, of Ararat, North Carolina, a friend of the bride; and Erin Elizabeth Hill, of Winston-Salem, a childhood friend of the bride.

The flower girls were Sydney, Laken and Paisley Bailey, nieces of the groom, of Leland.

The ring bearers were Zaddock Arnder, nephew of the bride, of Tacoma, Washington, and Allen James Kincaid, cousin of the bride, of Pilot Mountain.

Each bridesmaid wore a differently designed navy blue cocktail dress unique to each bridesmaid.

The best man was Sid Harris, father of the groom, of Carolina Beach.

The groomsmen were Benjamin Lewis Webb of Mount Airy, a friend of the groom; Jeremiah Cody Spurlin of Mount Airy, a friend of the groom; Brett Evan Brim of Ararat, Virginia, a friend of the groom; Joseph Caleb Spurlin of Ararat, North Carolina, a friend of the groom; and Steven Nicholas McCrary, of Westfield, a friend of the groom.

The guest book attendant was Courtney Barwick of Kernersville, a cousin of the bride.

The program attendant was Danielle Davis of Westfield, a friend of the bride.

The vocalist at the wedding was Kendra Bailey, sister of they groom, of Leland. Jamie Dooley and Nathan Webb were vocalists and guitarists.

The rehearsal dinner was held at the home of Rex and Leah Davis, grandparents of the bride, and hosted by the family of the bride and groom.

A dinner reception followed the wedding with music and dancing held at Old North State Winery hosted by the bride and groom, as well as by friends and family.

The couple took their wedding trip to Rio Grande in Puerto Rico.

The couple plans to reside in Pilot Mountain.
