A Pilot Mountain man is in critical but stable condition following a Sunday evening motorcycle wreck on U.S. 52.

According to Sgt. Kevin Barker of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Brandon Foster Lawson, 32, of Sechrist Loop Road, was traveling on the highway on a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja when the accident occurred near the Interstate 74 interchange.

Emergency services was alerted to the accident at 10:54 p.m., according to county Emergency Services Director John Shelton.

Police believe speed was a factor in the accident.

“He was going very fast,” Barker said. “At this point we think he ran up on slower traffic, laid the bike down, ran off the shoulder and overturned.”

Lawson was airlifted from the scene to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he remained in critical but stable condition Monday morning.

Barker said the accident is still under investigation by Trooper Jason Vindich. “Right now we’re still in the process of investigating the accident,” he said.
