Suspect sells car, allegedly steals it back

JONESVILLE — A resident from Mount Airy is facing charges for allegedly stealing a vehicle from a victim he originally sold his car to.

According to a release by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies processed a report of larceny of a motor vehicle from a resident in Jonesville on April 6.

According to the release, the resident explained that his vehicle was parked in his driveway on Dogwood Lane the night before and that when he went to work the next morning he noticed the vehicle missing.

After further investigation, the victim’s vehicle was involved in an alleged hit and run in Mount Airy. A subsequent investigation by the Mount Airy Police Department found the driver of the vehicle to allegedly be James Wyatt Akers, 23, of Mount Airy.

According from a statement by the victim, he had purchased the vehicle from Akers a year prior to the vehicle being stolen.

On April 15, Akers was charged with felony larceny of a motor vehicle from Yadkin County. Akers received a $5,000 secured bond and is being held at the Surry County Detention Center on related Surry County charges. His court date is May 20 in Yadkin County.
