Downtown Mount Airy presents Art Walk on Saturday

On Saturday, artists will be demonstrating their craft and selling art at more than 60 venues throughout the downtown district of Mount Airy,for the Spring Art Walk, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Artists will be on hand from many different areas and mediums, including painting, drawing, printmaking, woodworking, ceramics, photography, sculpture, crafts, authors, culinary arts, gourmet dining and wine, and more. Main Street Coordinator Lizzie Morrison said that this year more than 60 local and regional artists are participating in Art Walk.


The artists will set up inside and outside businesses, attractions, and retail stores in the downtown district.


A free van shuttle will be offered to take Art Walk attendees back and forth between venues. The stops for the free shuttle will be the Mount Airy Visitor's Center, Surry Arts Council, Market Street, and the Gertrude Smith House.


A Benita VanWinkle Photography Presentation will be held at the Historic Earle Theatre at 4 p.m., free of charge. VanWinkle is a photographer and she serves as the art education coordinator at High Point University. Her work has been exhibited and recognized with awards in numerous international and national art exhibitions.


A free Children's Art Workshop, “Paint Like Jackson Pollock,” will be held at Surry Arts Council at 2 p.m., with artist Kayla Ellis as the art teacher.


Live music will be featured throughout the day at We Sisters Bake Shop.


An Easter Bonnet Workshop for children will be held at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History at 10 a.m.


Pottery demonstrations will be featured at Mount Airy Cyclery on Oak Street, which is in the former museum annex building behind the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History.


Maps are available in participating venues throughout the downtown district.
