PINNACLE — A 38-year-old Pinnacle man is behind bars under a $2 million bond after police say he shot and killed his girlfriend early Saturday morning.

According to Sheriff Graham Atkinson, deputies received a call reporting a shooting at 311 Ayers Road at 5:20 a.m., Saturday.

After arriving on the scene, Atkinson said investigators discovered Lynsey Miller Anthony, 27, dead of a gunshot wound to the throat in the hall of a home owned by Christopher Vaughn Collins.

“(Collins, of the address) was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder,” Atkinson said.

Anthony was reportedly shot with a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, which was recovered at the scene.

Collins has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.

The sheriff said investigators believe a domestic dispute led to the shooting.

“We really don’t have any idea what specifically led to the altercation,” he said. “But from the evidence and statements collected at the scene, it was obviously a domestic situation.”

The victim reportedly lived in a mobile home adjacent to the one owned by Collins, and they ultimately moved in together prior to the shooting.

“They’d been keeping company with each other for a while, and apparently it was some sort of a back and forth deal where they would be together for a while and then get into an argument,” he said.

Atkinson said the investigation is continuing. The State Bureau of Investigation assisted deputies with processing the scene.
