Staff report

January 30, 2014

Locals will have the chance to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced in Surry County at the third annual State of Surry County panel discussion, hosted by “The Business Journal” with Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce as the outreach sponsor.

The event will take place on Jan. 31 at 7:30 a.m. at Cross Creek Country Club and will last approximately two hours.

A panel of community leaders includes Surry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Travis Reeves, Chairman of the Surry County Board of Commissioners Eddie Harris, and Surry County Economic Development Partnership President Todd Tucker.

Those who attend the event will have the opportunity to participate in discussion as well as ask questions.

Betty Ann Collins, president of the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber always supports this program, because its members enjoy attending. “We encourage our members to participate. We had about 140 people show up to the first one, from Surry County as well as neighboring counties.”

Collins said the event will begin with a light breakfast, followed by networking, then a moderator-led panel discussion with a question and answer session.

The cost to attend is $15 per person, which includes a light breakfast and a networking session prior to panel discussion. For tickets, call 336-370-2905.

Cross Creek Country Club is located at 1129 Greenhill Rd. in Mount Airy.

Sponsors include CenturyLink Business, Edward M. Armfield, Sr. Foundation, the UNCG Bryan School of Business and Economics, and WorkForce Carolina.
