Morning fire takes toll on Acme Stone in Mount Airy

The cause of an early morning blaze at Acme Stone on Fancy Gap Road in Mount Airy is being investigated by state officials.

The blaze heavily damaged the business, according to Mount Airy Fire Chief Zane Poindexter. The chief said the offices and buildings in the back portion of the business were saved.

The call was recieved around 6 a.m. and no injuries to civilians or firefighters have been reported in connection with the blaze. More details are unavailable at this time as crews finish work on the scene.

Poindexter said the SBI has been called to investigate the cause of the blaze, which has yet to be determined. The Franklin Volunteer Department assisted Mount Airy in the call with Bannertown and White Plains Volunteer Fire Departments on standby.
