PILOT MOUNTAIN — With great sadness, our family announces the death of Betty Jean Almond, a native and long-time resident of Pilot Mountain, NC, on December 26, 2013. Ms. Almond was born on June 30, 1937. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Universal Healthcare of King, NC, where she enjoyed socializing with her many friends and the dedicated staff. She particularly enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds, as well as listening to music and reading cookbooks. Ms. Almond is survived by her children, Joseph Allen Maxcy and Alicia Austin and their extended families; the family of her late-son, James David Maxcy; her nephews, Michael Almond, Butch Caudle and Don Caudle; a niece, Patricia Caudle Weidemann; and their families. Ms. Almond was preceded in death by her son, James David Maxcy; her parents, James A. and Elvin Asbill Almond; sisters, Lorene Almond Caudle and Peggy Almond Gerrity; and brothers, Billy Joe “Skip,” Kenny Moore “Mutt,” and James Aubrey “Cotton” Almond. The family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013. The funeral service will be at Cox-Needham Funeral Chapel at 4:00 p.m. following the visitation/viewing. Interment will be in the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery.
