WEST JEFFERSON — Jasmine Varney set a Mount Airy record with seven three-pointers as the Lady Bears won 61-34 over Ashe County on the road.

The Lady Bears hit 15 three-pointers as a team, and Varney finished with a game-high 21 points.

“I thought we did a great job of sharing the basketball,” said Coach Howard Mayo. “Getting 18 assists, that speaks volumes. It doesn’t matter who is scoring. Jasmine was shooting very well. Her teammates were making the extra pass to find her wide open.”

Skyler Flippen led the team with six assists to go with two points. Mikayla Seivers had five assists and 12 points.

Alex Atkins had nine points and six rebounds. Ayano Shelton scored eight points, Halee Ratcliff four, Alexis France three and Carley VanHoy two.

Mayo said everyone received playing time, and he tried out some different lineup combinations.

The Bears improved to 9-0 overall and take on cross-town rival North Surry on Friday.
