Finding time to call one’s own can be difficult during the holidays, but a special event Friday night at Reeves Community Center aims to do just that where local parents are concerned.
“Parents’ Night Out” is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the center, where children can be taken and occupied with wholesome activities during that time to free up their moms’ and dads’ schedule for other pursuits.
“It gives them a chance to get some last-minute Christmas shopping completed or just attend a party themselves,” explained Fonda Mooney, family services director at the community center.
“We’ve offered it a couple of times, usually around the holidays,” Mooney added of the RCC “Parents’ Night Out” opportunity — but there is one important difference this time.
“In the past we have actually charged,” she said of the gathering. “This is our first time of having a free event.”
Mooney emphasized that everyone is welcome to participate in “Parents’ Night Out,” for which the sign-up deadline is Wednesday.
“It’s just a good way to bring people from the community in to see what all we do offer here,” she said. “It’s open for the community.”
Mooney said the only requirement for parents who’d like their children to attend is to stop by the front desk at Reeves Community Center on Renfro Street to sign up by the Wednesday deadline so a spot will be held for them.
More information is available from Fonda Mooney at 786-8313 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The children will be treated to games, crafts and other fun activities in a kids’ room of the community center as well as the gym — all under the supervision of city parks and recreation personnel. Snacks are to be provided as well.
