15th Annual Festival of the Bands this weekend at ACHS

The 15th Annual Festival of the Bands will be held at Ashe County High School 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5.

Ten high school marching bands will be competing, and our own Husky Vanguard Marching Band will be performing in exhibition at 6:45 p.m.

Competing bands will vie for first and second place in the categories Visual Ensemble, Percussion, Drum Major, Marching and Maneuver, Music and General Effect.

A Spirit Award, given by the ACHS Band Boosters, will be awarded to the band exhibiting the most outstanding teamwork.

The McDonald’s Cup trophy, given by the West Jefferson McDonald’s franchise, will go to the band with the highest combined score in all events regardless of category.

The following bands will be competing in four categories:

Class A: Alleghany County High School Trojan Pride Band, Shelby High School Golden Lion Marching Band, Watauga County High School Pioneer Marching Band, East Surry High School Cardinal Flight Marching Band, Marion High School Scarlet Hurricane Marching Band.

Class AA: Holston High School Marching Cavaliers, West Wilkes High School Blackhawks Marching Band

Class AAA: John S. Battle High School Trojan Band

Class AAAA: East Burke High School Marching Cavaliers

This event promises lots of great music, food and fun. Admission is $5, and all proceeds go to ACHS Band Boosters for new uniforms.
