STATESVILLE — Surry Central finished 14th in a cross country meet that featured mostly 3A and 4A high schools.
In the meet several of Central’s runners recorded a personal best, said Central’s Cross Country Coach Jason Bryant.
Due to an injury only four girls were able to compete for Central, so they did not field a girl’s team in the competition.
Bryant said Maria Trejo continued to improve her individual running time recording a 24:36 for the 3.1-mile course. Trejo runs at the first seed for the team.
In addition, Bryant said two of Central’s freshman continued to build on improvements made the week before.
“Even though last week’s placing was better, our guys ran better this week, just the competition was much better. Daniel Alvarez ran number one for the team and Kevin Pack ran number two, each running personal bests,” said Bryant.
Benjamin Robertson made the big improvement of the guys with a personal best of 20:42, an improvement of 57 seconds, said Bryant.
Elvis Vega and Tyler Fitzgerald finished close together with Vega just edging out Tyler for the team’s number five scorer, said Bryant.
“We are improving week to week and kids are becoming better runners and racers,” said Bryant.
Surry Central’s next invitational is scheduled on Sept. 21 at Walker’s Run in Virginia.
