PINNACLE — The Shoals Community Recreation Center will be the subject of a planning meeting and workshop on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. at the Shoals Ruritan Building, located at 3025 Shoals Road, and all Shoals community residents and interested residents from the surrounding area are encouraged to attend.
According to SCRC Treasurer Phyllis Jessup, the meeting is being held in conjunction with and being facilitated by the Piedmont Triad Regional Council. The recreation center board has been working with the Piedmont Triad Regional Council to start the application process for a matching grant from the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF).
“We’re asking our community residents to come out and let us know what they’d like to see at the center,” Jessup explained. “We have some preliminary plans for development but we need the community’s input. We strongly encourage anyone who wants to be involved in our center and our community to come out and voice their ideas and interests.
“And,” she continued, “we want to encourage everyone in our community and the surrounding areas to take advantage of what we already have in place. It’s there to be used.”
The latest stage of the center’s development features two ball fields, a soccer field, a concession stand and a 9-hole disc golf course. These have been added in addition to the original location’s ball field and accompanying facilities.
“Good attendance for Tuesday night’s meeting is critical to the success of our grant request,” Jessup said. “It’s imperative that we have community involvement in this process.”
