WINSTON-SALEM — The Mount Airy varsity soccer team won its 10th straight match on the road against Calvary Baptist Day on Thursday.
Calvary did score a goal on the Bears. The goal was only the second to be scored on them this season.
The Bears victory ended with a 3-1 score.
Both teams were tied 1-1 at half-time. Head Coach Will Hurley said the Bears changed the momentum to get the win by taking control of ball possession in the second half.
Calvary was a good team and handled the ball well, said Hurley. The width of the field was professional size, that fact was also was a factor, said Hurley.
Felipe Chavez led the Bears by shooting two goals. Jose Perez scored one goal.
Bear Jeremy Chappell had one assist and Carlos Carillo had 11 steals.
Hurley said goalie Scott Kunkel had a good game.
Mount Airy will play North Surry at home Monday.
Hurley said he expects a big game from the traditional rivals.
In addition,the Bears’ junior varsity soccer team won 5-3 against Calvary Baptist Day.
