East Surry to meet rivals West Stokes in King

PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry remains undefeated and is 3-0 in the Northwest 1A conference.

They are tied in the conference with Walkertown, who is also 3-0.

So far, West Stokes is in a six-way tie in the Western Piedmont 2A Conference and has a 2-1 record.

According to, East Surry moved up in state rankings after beating North Surry last week by a score of 35-6. The Cardinals went to 98 from being 134th in the state.

In last week’s game against the Hounds, quarterback John Dickenson threw for 94 yards against North Surry and hit two touchdowns both to Dylan Slate.

Slate caught the two passes for 68 yards.

Also, against the Hounds, Lucas Koons ran for 105 yards. Dickenson contributed 36 yards on the ground.

To win against West Stokes, Diamont said the team will have to play even better. “We have to do what we have been doing but keep working to improve ourselves,” he said.

Diamont said, “West Stokes is an extremely well-coached team that works hard in the off season.”

He called the Wildcats offense sophisticated and their defense extremely aggressive.

Diamont said the Cards must play without mistakes period. There can be none on offense, defense or special teams, he said.

Diamont said he doesn’t believe the rivalry between the teams will be a factor, because East Surry will travel with a crowd.

“It is only 10 minutes away and our fans will be there,” said Diamont.
