MILLERS CREEK — Mount Airy ‘s soccer team improved to 2-0 with a win over West Wilkes Thursday.

The Granite Bears scored two goals in the first half and two in the second half against the Blackhawks.

“I’m really proud of our defense,” said Coach Will Hurley. “Our defense is playing superbly.”

Co-captain Carlos Carrillo is the heart of the defense, but he received plenty of help in this one from Alan Ortiz, Cristian Cabrera, Daniel Ballard and Hunter Clawson. They made life easy for keeper Scott Kunkel.

The first goal came off a long throw-in from Carrillo. The ball flew toward the goal, and Felipe Chavez scored with a header.

The second goal came when co-captain Mitchell Brown assisted to Jose Perez.

The score would stay 2-0 into the second half.

Off a corner kick, Chavez banged in his second score and fifth in two games.

Chavez then assisted Brown for the final goal.

The Bears return home to host North Wilkes on Tuesday.
