A former Brooklyn Dodgers player who was on the team during the time Jackie Robinson played is scheduled to be in Mount Airy on Sunday, speaking at a local church.
Bill Francis, who was a member of the Dodgers organization from 1949 to 1951, will be at Rockford Street UMC, speaking at 11 a.m.
“He will be sharing what it was like in professional baseball during those early years when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier,” the church’s minister, Rev. Jack Danley, said in a statement. “With the Jackie Robinson story made into a movie, and soon to be on DVD, we have a great opportunity to hear of those times from someone who was there.”
A luncheon will follow the service. For more information, or for directions, call Danley at 374-5679.
