WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Virginia Ruth Dixon Hoots, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 in Chesterfield, MO. Mrs. Hoots was born on May 30, 1925 in Winston-Salem, NC to Robert Lee and Nannie Owens Dixon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 2 PM at Crestwood Baptist Church with Pastor David Wood officiating. Interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, August 23, from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. She was a graduate of Hanes High School and Draughan’s Business College. Since 2008 Ruth has been living near her daughter in Missouri however, she called Forsyth County home. She was married to Clark O. Hoots for approximately thirty-two years until his death in 1981 and during their marriage they lived, worked and raised their family in Virginia. She worked for the Department of Defense as a Budget Analyst for thirty five years. She absolutely loved numbers and it’s been reported that Ruth balanced her checkbook and managed numbers in her life to the nth degree. Ruth got her start in bookkeeping at age seventeen as she worked for her father’s business, Bluebird Tire Shop on 7th Street in Winston-Salem. She was a woman of great faith and was a devoted member of Crestwood Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed and will be remembered as an independent, outspoken, and sometimes ornery character with a smile that lit up the room and the hearts of people who loved her. She has been the link to the present and past of her family and the one who brought them together. She is survived by her children, son, Scott Hoots and wife Amy of Orlando, FL and daughter, Vicky Pellicone and husband Joe of Wildwood, MO; grandchildren, Joseph Pellicone, Sharon and husband David O’Malley, Gus Hoots, and Sam Hoots; great grandchildren, Sharon and Alex Collins; brother, Richard Dixon and wife Shirley; sister, Geneva Terry; and several nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Kathy Collins, brothers, John William and Robert Gray Dixon, and sister, Minnie Montgomery.
