PILOT MOUNTAIN — Police are on the scene where a body has been discovered in Pilot Mountain.
While few details are available due to the very preliminary investigation at this point, Sheriff Graham Atkinson said that shortly before 5 p.m., police were called to the scene, located off Fox Trot Lane.
“At 4:45 p.m., today’s date, Surry County Central Communications received a report that human remains had been located in a wooded area off of Fox Trot Lane in Pilot Mountain,” Atkinson said in a brief press release.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the remains as reported,” he continued.
Some of the first officers to arrive on the scene immediately called for a detective and chain saw, but not much more is known at this time.
Investigators with the county sheriff’s office are working with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and are in the process of gathering evidence to help determine the identity of the body and the cause of death at this time.
Atkinson said no further information is available at this time.
“We’re hoping to know more in the near future,” he said. “Other details will be released as they become available.
“At this point, we haven’t even gotten to go over the whole scene yet.”
