HILLSVILLE, Va. — The Carroll Wellness Center has announced plans for a triathlon next month.
The first CWC Triathlon will be held Sept. 7 in and around Hillsville. The theme is “Where Fitness Meets Fun.”
The event begins with a 300-yard swim in the wellness center’s indoor pool at 8 a.m. That is equal to six laps of the pool.
That is followed by a 12-mile bike ride around the Carroll County area.
The final part is a 5k run (3.1 miles) through the streets of Hillsville, following the same path as the annual Fourth of July Freedom 5K.
Event coordinator Mandy Nester said since this is the first try at holding a triathlon, the center needs at least 40 people sign up to participate or the event might not be held.
The race is open to anyone age 12 or older.
If doing all three legs of the event seems too daunting, the center suggests signing up as a team of two or three people with team members doing different parts of the triathlon.
Those who don’t have a team, but would like to be part of one can e-mail Nester at email@example.com. The center also needs volunteers to help out that morning.
The cost is $50 for an individual or $100 for a team; this includes a souvenir T-shirt for those who register by Aug. 16. After Aug. 16, the costs are $65 and $125.
The registration forms and more details can be found at carrollwc.org/index.php/triathlon. For more information, contact Mandy Nester at firstname.lastname@example.org or 276-728-2500.
