PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry will host a youth football camp on Monday and Tuesday.

The coaching staff and current players will lead the kids from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Coach David Diamont said the middle school coaches would also be involved in the camp, which is for children from the third grade to eighth grade.

The kids simply need to wear T-shirts, shorts and sneakers, said Diamont. No special equipment is needed.

The camp will provide plenty of water each day as well as a snack and a camp T-shirt. The fee is $20.

The goal is to have fun, but keep the focus intensely on football, said Diamont. Drills and activities will teach basic skill development.

Diamont said he has held a youth camp since 1999 or 2000. It develops continuity as boys learn techniques that translate to what the JV and varsity teams use at East Surry. He said there are several boys on this year’s roster who attended these camps in grade school.

* Mount Airy will host its Bears little league camp this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Wallace Shelton Stadium. Registration opens at 8 a.m. before the start of camp. Further details were not available at press time.
