MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Gilbert Aaron Draughon Sr., 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living in Mount Airy. He was born in Surry County on Oct. 10, 1922, to the late Benjamin Edgar and Clara Agnes Watson Draughon. Mr. Draughon was retired from the United States Postal Service and was a member of Grace Moravian Church. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a lifelong member of the Mount Airy Elks Lodge. He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Dickerson of Mount Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Aaron and Janie Draughon, Trent Draughon and Tammy Atkins, all of Mount Airy, and Ronnie and Carol Draughon of Lowgap; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Allen and Betty Draughon of Mount Airy and Wayne Draughon of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughon was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Forrest Worrell Draughon; a grandson, Kenneth Draughon; a brother, Oliver Draughon; and two infant siblings. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Hayworth officiating. Entombment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
