FORD, Va. Benny Leon Goins, 49, of Ford, and formerly of Mount Airy, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Medical College of Virginia. He was born on Nov. 19, 1959, in Mount Airy to Alvin William and Iris Lawson Goins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Roy and Earlie Goins and John and Eva Johnson Lawson; and his father-in-law, John D. Dabney. His greatest joy in life was serving the Lord by playing the bass guitar with The Harvesters Quartet and The Singing Americans. He was a member of Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church in Mount Airy. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Charlotte Dabney Goins; two sons, Andrew Leon Goins and Lewis James L.J. Goins of North Carolina; brother, Carlton Eugene Goins and wife Darlene and niece Carla Danielle Goins of North Carolina; his devoted mother-in-law, Charlotte J. Dabney of Ford; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Special thanks to his nurses, therapists and doctors at MCV/VSU and the staff of the Heart Transplant Clinic. The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home where a funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park.
