MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Carolina Bearcats basketball team brought home silver after competing in the Big Shots Tournament over the weekend in Myrtle Beach.
Head Coach Marcus Wilmoth said the Bearcats competed hard and played well. The team took a tough loss in first game but later came back and won silver.
“We shot the ball well, played together as a team and got some exposure around college coaches,” said Wilmoth.
The travel showcase team competes in the age group of 17 and under.
Seth Brim, Carson Long and Scott Meredith of East Surry, Zach Wilmoth of Surry Central and Marcus Sawyers of North Surry are local high school basketball players in the Bearcats lineup. There are other players from Carroll and Grayson counties of Virginia, and north and south Forsyth County.
Wilmoth said the team goals for the final three tournaments will be to win as many games as possible and get more exposure and experience.
The travel showcase team is beneficial because the players get to work on skills during the summer. Wilmoth said it keeps them sharp for their high school teams in the off-season.
Wilmoth said they also benefit by playing some of the best regional competition around. They face up to 30 teams each tournament.
The Bearcats will play another tournament this weekend in Myrtle Beach. The next two will be held in Richmond, Va.
